The World Football Confederation (WFC) announced on Monday that Brazilian forward Neymar has been named its player of the tournament.
The 25-year-old is the first Brazilian player to win the tournament for a decade.
Neymar has scored eight goals in 11 matches for the Brazil national team, helping them reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
The WFC has also named former England winger Robbie Savage as its assistant coach, while former Socceroo and England international Michael Owen has been appointed as technical director.
The new edition of the FIFA World Cup, which starts on July 12, has been dubbed “the new edition” by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as it attempts to attract fans and broadcasters to the tournament and to develop the sport of football.
